Throughout the entire Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the light penetrates and illuminates the shadows falling over our cities not in one solid blast but in thousands of little rays, reflecting off of good men and women like yourself.
In our Together in Mission highlight video this year, we meet a few people of faith who embody what it means to be a ray of Christ, like Gabby, a volunteer who teaches RCIA every Sunday evening. She shares her time, her faith, and her knowledge because she understands the life changing power of the sacraments. By teaching RCIA, Gabby is empowering other men and women to receive forgiveness, grace, and unity with God.
Similarly, Fr. Juan Bosco hosts neighborhood youth soccer programs in order to provide the young people of his city with a safe place to learn teamwork, leadership, and a work ethic. He knows that the positive impact of playing team sports as a kid extends far beyond childhood and so he volunteers his time to make sure the children in his neighborhood are well equipped with the skills they’ll need as adults.
Ms. Natalie is a Catholic school teacher who knows the difference a faith based education makes in the life of a student. She has devoted her life not only to forming children intellectually, but spiritually also. Her classroom is an oasis for kids to learn about who they are as children of God and to be treated with love and respect.
Margarita gives back by distributing food to those in need in her neighborhood. In her ministry, she collaborates with developmentally challenged adults, acknowledging the dignity of their work and irreplaceable contribution to their community.
And finally, Deacon Jim distributes communion in his neighborhood to the elderly, sick, and disabled who cannot go to Mass to receive on their own. He knows the importance of providing an opportunity for union not only with Christ but with the rest of the Church and so he goes out of his way to make sure that that opportunity is available to everyone - especially his community’s most vulnerable members. Would you like to become a ray of light to bring joy and unity to the schools and churches of our Archdiocese?
